Fredrick Anthony Young (“Tony”) passed away peacefully on October 3, 2019. A devoted father, husband, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin, uncle, and friend, Tony fought the good fight to understand and obey God’s will for his life with perseverance and courage.
Tony was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies to Leoline Young, née Smith and Alfonso Young. He migrated to the USA, where he attended Franklin K Lane High School and Kingsborough Community College. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Marcia nee Thompson. Their loving union produced two beautiful daughters, Dominee and Desiree. The family lived in Queens, New York for 14 years before relocating to New Jersey where they have resided for the past 21 years.
Tony worked as a Bus Operator at MTA New York City Transit for 16 years. A real estate investor and entrepreneur, Tony also enjoyed using his carpentry skills to make things new again. He was born with a “green thumb” and cultivated beautiful plants, flowers and scrumptious vegetables. A lifelong classic car enthusiast, Tony’s passion for cars was only surpassed by the love and care he gave to his family and friends.
Tony was an active member of the Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church, and served as Trustee Board Chairperson as well as United Methodist Men President. Subsequent to the family’s relocation to Cranbury, New Jersey, he joined Cranbury United Methodist Church and actively participated in the Men’s Club while supporting their community outreach efforts.
Tony was preceded in death by his father Alfonso, brother Dexter, Grandmother Ancella (Aunt Flossie) and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves to mourn, a “thankful for his life and love” wife, Marcia, blessed daughters, Dominee and Desiree, doting Mother, Leoline, honored brothers and sisters, Walter, Maurice, Donna, Gary, Glynis and Shaffron, and a host of much loved in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as many friends.
His impeccable style, his infectious smile, his encouraging manner and his tenacity will live on forever in our memory filled hearts. Tony was loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life/Memorial will be held later in the month. Please reach out to the family for additional info.
