Eleanor Sorensen, of Freehold, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2022. A leap year baby, Eleanor celebrated 19 birthdays during her 77 years on Earth.
Ellie, as many called her, was a wonderful cook. Her Sunday sauce was legendary, and you would consider yourself a lucky soul if she baked you her famous apple pizza. She loved her pets, the many animals that she and her family adopted through the years and was known for never forgetting to feed the neighborhood cats and deer. She was sharp witted and opinionated. She will be missed by those who were closest to her.
Eleanor joins her beloved husband, Chris Charles Sorensen, who passed in 2016 after 45 years of marriage, in eternal rest.
Eleanor is survived by her sons, John and Chris Sorensen, her daughter-in-law, Maria Dimitriou Sorensen, and her only grandchild, Christina James Sorensen. She is also survived by her siblings, James Panella, Edward Panella, Theresa Perri, and Elizabeth McNair, along with her brother-in-law Bruce McNair, and her many nieces and nephews. Eleanor is predeceased by her parents, Adeline and Nacenzio Panella, and by her siblings, Marie Borowski and Joseph Panella.
In keeping with her wishes, Eleanor will be cremated, and no services will be held. To honor Eleanor’s love of animals, please consider a donation to the Monmouth County SPCA.
