MITCHELL – Dorothy “Dottie” Patricia (94), formerly of Rockaway NJ, passed peacefully at The Oaks at Denville on April 26, 2026.

Dottie was predeceased by her beloved parents John and Helen (nee Donnelly), her brother John, her sister in-law Margaret “Peggy” (nee McMahon) and her niece Margaret Ann.

Dottie was from the Inwood Section of Manhattan. Following high school, Dottie spent four years with the Equitable Life Insurance Co. - before joining The Religious Sisters of Mercy – Tarrytown. Dottie then made the difficult choice to depart the novitiate in order to care for her recently widowed mother.  After resuming secular life in 1953 she spent the next ten years with the Brown Brothers Harriman Co.  Dottie then moved to Rockaway where she enjoyed a twenty-year career with the Allied Chemical Co.  Dottie then spent a number of years with the Exxon Office Systems Co. before retiring to part time work. 

In her younger years, Dottie enjoyed many interests, not the least of which were her love of photography, sketch art, bowling and dancing.  Dottie overcame many difficult challenges during her lifetime – sustained by her deep faith and love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Dottie was a devout member of St. Mary’s RC Church in Denville for nearly six decades. She will be dearly missed by her longtime caregiver and dear friend, Maya Jackson, as well as by her dear friends, Barbara Jones and Tom and Mary Furlong – to mention just a few. 

Dottie is survived by seven (7) nieces and nephews, Mary Haddad, Patricia Mitchell and John Moore, Helen Bergen, Patrick, Michael and Elizabeth, John, and Dorothy and Keith Maltzi.  She is also survived by fourteen (14) great nieces and nephews and eleven (11) great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Liturgy and interment will be held at Saint Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx NY.
