Richard Paul Rhodes, 85, a longtime Westfield resident, passed away on Sept. 3 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ.
Born in Brooklyn NY to the late Robert and Claire Rhodes, he attended Columbia University where he earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Richard worked for Exxon Research and Engineering in New Jersey where he authored dozens of patents. He founded Synoteck, Inc. after retiring from Exxon.
Richard was the beloved husband of Linnea W. Rhodes for 50 years. He is survived by sons Richard and William, daughter-in-law Tanya, and granddaughter Chloe.
Richard enjoyed cooking, skiing, hiking, traveling, and carpentry. A skilled craftsman, he built a home in the Berkshires, a 34-foot catamaran sailboat, and a model A Ford.
